1986 - graduated from school №211 in Leninsk (now Baikonur), the Kzyl-Orda region, the Kazakh SSR;
1990 - graduated with honors from Tallinn Polytechnic University, with a specialization in «Electrical equipment of industrial plants and installations»;
1998 - graduated from the Moscow State Technical University named after Bauman with a specialization in «Technique and physics of low temperatures»;
2009 - graduated with honors from the Russian Presidential Academy of Public Administration with a specialization in «Personnel Management».
Oleg Germanovich served in the ranks of the Soviet Army in Vilnius, the Lithuanian SSR (1990 - 1991). Since 1998 - worked in the RSC «Energy», where he was engaged in the development of on-board documentation and experimental testing of the extravehicular activity techniques and equipment in conditions of zero-gravity simulation at the «Selen» stand and neutral buoyancy in the CTC hydro-laboratory; took part in the preparation of the «Zvezda» service module for the start in the part of the EVA (extravehicular activity) and MR (maintenance and repair); took part in the preparation of the ISS crews for the EVA; accompanied spacewalks to the ISS in the Mission Control Center; took part in the crews marine training on the splashdown of the descent vehicles (DV); he was a member of the DV maintenance team at the landing site; a member of the test team as a tester in the spacesuits «Orlan-M-GN», «Orlan-VN», EMU and as an insuring diver in light-diving equipment.
May 29, 2003 - according to the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission for the Selection of cosmonauts (ICSC) enlisted in the cosmonaut corps of the RSC «Energy»;
From June 16, 2003 to June 28, 2005 - received general space training (GST) in the RST CTC named after Y.A. Gagarin;
July 5, 2005 - at the meeting of the Interdepartmental Qualification Commission (IQC) qualified as «cosmonaut-researcher».
From July, 2005 to May, 2012 - was trained as a member of the group of specialization and improvement; From November 3, 2005 to January 21, 2011- cosmonaut-tester of the 291st department of the RSC «Energy»;
Since January 22, 2011 – cosmonaut-tester of the cosmonaut corps of Roscosmos; From November 15 to 29, 2007 and from June 25 to July 9, 2008 - participated in two-week tests under the program of the experiment «MARS-500»;
In 2008 was involved in the full cycle of the barometric test of the «Orlan-MK» space suit in the public corporation «Zvezda»;
From June 25 to July 9, 2008 - took part in a 14-day technical experiment under the program of the experiment «MARS-500»;
From March 31 to July 14, 2009 - took part in a 105-day preparatory experiment under the program of the experiment «MARS-500»;
2010-2011 - as operator of the descent vehicle (DV) was preparing the spacecraft «Soyuz» №701 and №231 for the launch;
From September, 2011 to September, 2013 was trained in the ISS-37/38 backup crew as the flight engineer of the spacecraft «Soyuz TMA-M» and the ISS flight engineer.From September, 2013 to March, 2014 was preparing for a space flight in the ISS-39/40 main crew as the flight engineer of the spacecraft «Soyuz TMA-M» and the ISS flight engineer.
