Lectured briefly at Tokyo, Kyushu and Kyoto universities before proceeding to Germany to study forestry. Returning home came into prominence with his microbiological research in the decomposition values of dropped leaves and also for his study of soil in the beech forests in the northeastern provinces of Japan. Was elected member of Japan Scientifc Council (1950) and was a chief of the Forestry Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
