On Shionoya

Background

On Shionoya was born in 1878 in Tokyo, Japan. He was the eldest son of Seizan (Tokitoshi), noted Confucian scholar.

Education

On Shionoya graduated from Chinese Literature Department, Tokyo University (1902).

Career

On Shionoya was appointed professor at Peers' School, then assistant professor at his alma mater. Was appointed professor at Tokyo University (1920). Professor emeritus at Tokyo University. He was a director of the Shibunkai, an association of scholars of Chinese classics, and a trustee of the Association of the Meiji Shrine Athletic Meeting.
