Oscar Osorio was born on 14 December 1910 in Sonsonate.
He studied at the Escuela Politécnica Militar and had a normal military career until 1945 when, implicated in a conspiracy, he was exiled to Mexico.
He returned to ElSalvador in 1948, after the overthrow of President Castañeda Castro, to become a member of a new Revolutionary Council.
The young military organized the Revolutionary Party of Democratic Unification (PRUD), and it elected Osorio president in 1950. He was succeeded by his minister of interior, José María Lémus.
Osorio soon broke with his successor. In I960 he formed the PRUD (Auténtico), but it did not prosper. Thereafter, he ceased to be a major factor in national politics.
