He was the assistant Washington bureau chief from 1945 to 1950 and became the bureau chief in 1950. Oscar continued in that position until 1980, when he became a consultant to the newspaper.
Oscar Naumann was a member of the National Press Club, the Capitol Hill Club, the Overseas Writers Club, the International Club, the Chesapeake Yacht Club, and Zeta Psi.
Naumann was married to Maria Mercedes Martinez Naumann. They had three children - Nancy, Melinda Maria, Victor Ridder, and four grandchildren.
