Otani also studied in Britain as an overseas student of the Education Ministry.
Career
Otani taught English at the Sumoto Middle School, Shinshu College and the Fourth Higher School in Kanazawa City (Ishikawa Prefecture).
He began composing haiku when he was a student at the Second Higher School under Shiki Masaoka. He was at one time editor of the haiku section of the Chuo Koron magazine.
