Otsu no Oji

Background

Otsu no Oji was born in 664. He was the son of Emperor Temmu. His mother was Princess Ota, daughter of Emperor Tenchi.

Career

Participated in Court affairs for the first time (684). After the demise of Emperor Temmu, he planned to revolt against Empress Jito. The plot was brought to light and he committed suicide upon Imperial order at Osada. His wife, Princess Yamabe, also killed herself.

Otsu-no-Oji was proficient in poetry.
