Franz Joseph II was born on the 16th of August, 1906.
On the 7thof March, 1943 Franz Joseph II married Georgine Countess of Wilczeck. The royal couple had five children.
He preferred to travel greatly, but when he became the ruling prince he did not leave the principality. And this fact made him extremely popular.
Franz Joseph II died on the 13th of November, 1989 shortly after the death of his wife.
During the school years the favourite subjects of Franz Josef were mathematics, natural history and Greek.
His father Prince Franz I turned over the regency to his son on the 30th of March, 1938.The same year, on the 25th of July, Franz I died and Prince Franz Joseph took over the leadership of the countries’ affairs.
In 1984 Prince Franz Joseph II appointed Prince Hans-Adam II his permanent representative.

Secondly, after the war he dedicated himself mainly to the economic, social and cultural progress of Liechtenstein. His efforts were not in vain. During his reign Liechtenstein became one of the richest countries in the world.
