He graduated from Tokyo University (1926).
Professor of Kwansei Gakuin University. Taught as professor at Tokyo Higher Normal School (from 1930) and then at Tokyo University of Science and Literature. Appointed professor of Kwansei Gakuin University (1947) and professor of Konan University (1953).
Devoting himself to study of English, he conducted research in grammatical structure of the language, and on the works of Shakespeare. He received degree of Doctor of Literature for "Study of Modern English of Early Period" (1949). This thesis that contains study of Shakespeare's handwriting, is now regarded as a great achievement.
