In 1896, Jitsuzo Kuwabara graduated from Tokyo University with a degree in Chinese literature.
After studing at Tokyo in 1899, made a special study of Eastern history to become professor at Tokyo Higher Normal School . In 1906, Jitsuzo Kuwabara was sent to China to make further research. In 1909, he joined Kyoto University as professor, and the following year was conferred a doctorate, Litt.D. He was a pioneer in the study of Eastern history and was an authority on the history of traffic between East and West, for which he was awarded an Academy prize in 1926.
