He graduated in 1956 as a student of Zeki Faik İzer from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
He trained hundreds of artist candidates during his teaching career at the Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy. He participated in personal and mixed exhibitions, especially the Paris biennials between 1963 and 1965, leading the way in many artistic movements. Between 1988 and 1992, he developed the "Random Meeting" method to prove that the artistic space is formed by the synthesis of different logic, origins, concepts and structures from one end to the other.
He believed that artistic space is formed by the merging of different concepts, origins, structures and logic.
Altan was a dynamic and fertile personality with its inexhaustible energy.
