Pamela Jean Cravey was born on March 6, 1945, in Washington, District of Columbia, United States. She is a daughter of Jack M. Bristow, an advertising executive, and Marjorie M. W. Bristow, a homemaker.
Pamela Cravey earned a Bachelor of Arts from Baldwin-Wallace College (now University) in 1967; a Master of Science from Florida State University in 1968, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Georgia State University in 1989.
Pamela Cravey worked as an instructor and librarian at Florida State University in 1968-1969, and at the University of Georgia in 1972-1975. She was an associate professor and librarian at Georgia State University in 1975-2000 and became an associate professor emeritus. Cravey was a project librarian for the library service enhancement program for the Council on Library Resources and a consultant to the American Academy of Religion. Since 2000, she is a self-employed consultant. She contributed to periodicals, including College and Research Libraries, and to books, including Academic Libraries in Urban and Metropolitan Areas: A Management Handbook, edited by Gerard B. McCabe. Her book, Protecting Library Staff, Users, Collections, and Facilities: A How-to-Do-lt Manual, was published by Neal-Schuman Publishers in 2001.

Pamela Cravey, maiden name Bristow, married G. Randall Cravey on June 26, 1976. She has three sons: Glenn, Ryan, and Chris.
G. Randall Cravey was a member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher for children and youth; a member of many committees, and on the Board of the WRBC Foundation. Professionally he taught at several technical schools, was on the ground floor of library automation, serving as a manager of the library accounts at Florida Technological University, as Technical Director for the Southeastern Library Network, a participant in the SPIN-X project at Georgia State University (GSU), and as a Service Site Coordinator for the GIL project.
