He is Minister for Finance & Planning in the present Punjab Government. He has studied Master of Business Administration and B Committee He was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2002 on a Akali Dal ticket from Sunam for first time.
He was re-elected from Sunam in 2007 and 2012.
In 2007, he was made cabinet minister and given portfolio of PWD. After 2012 elections, he was made minister of finance as predecessor Upinderjit Kaur lost her elections.
