Background

Paul William Buchanan was born on October 4, 1959, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He is a son of William Buchanan, a mechanical engineer, and Ruth (Lowry) Buchanan, a homemaker. The family immigrated to Southern California from Belfast, when Paul was eight years old.

Education

In 1981, Paul received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Biola University. Later, in 1985, he received a Master of Arts degree from the University of California, Riverside. Then, Buchanan continued his education at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Master of Professional Writing degree in 1997.

Career

Since 1989, Paul has been teaching English at Biola University in La Mirada. In 1991, he was made a chief editor at the same university.

Besides his work as an educator, Buchanan also writes books. His works include "Uncle from Another Planet" (1999), "Wild Ride on Bigfoot Mountain" (1999), "Dances with Werewolves" (2000), "The Misadventures of Willie Plummet" series ("Invasion from Planet X", "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better", "Battle of the Bands", etc.) and others.

In his work and in his reading, Paul is especially interested in how matters of faith and moral reasoning influence the lives of characters. He said, that Adele Griffin, author of "Sons of Liberty and Split Just Right", is his hero.

Paul is a member of the Author’s Guild and the Dramatist’s Guild, as well as PEN International and Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
