Paul Hertelendy is an American critic and writer. He was a music critic for "Oakland Tribune" and "San Jose Mercury News".

Background

Hertelendy was born on June 10, 1932 in Budapest, Hungary; the son of Andor and Elizabeth (Hitt) Hertelendy. In 1940, his parents moved to the United States to escape World War II.

Education

Hertelendy received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 1965.

Career

Hertelendy began his career as a research engineer at National Bureau of Standards in 1958. Six years later he was appointed a music critic for "Oakland Tribune", where he wrote reviews and critiques on classical music. Then in 1979, Paul took the position for "San Jose Mercury News". From 1999 he was a chief executive officer for ArtsSF. Nowadays Hertelendy continues writing music reviews on the Internet and is working on a project to compile his father’s memories for translation.
