Paul Avraham Alsberg
Paul Avraham Alsberg was born on March 30, 1919, in Wuppertal, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. He was the son of Alfred Alsberg and Helene (Weinberg) Alsberg.
Paul Alsberg graduated from high school in 1937 at the Wuppertal Carl-Fuhlrott-Gymnasium, which he attended as one of the last Jewish students, and then he began studying at the Jewish Theological Seminary of Breslau.
After the November pogroms in 1938, Paul Alsberg was interned in the Buchenwald concentration camp for two months. Arrived in Israel, 1939. After moving to Israel, received a Master of Arts, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, 1943, and Doctor of Philosophy, Hebrew University, 1958.
Paul Alsberg worked as a senior assistant at the Zionist Central Archives from 1949 to 1957 and headed the Israeli National Archives from 1957 to 1971. He became Israel State Archivist, Jerusalem, 1971-1990.
Paul Alsberg worked as a senior lecturer in Archives and Information Studies at Hebrew University of Jerusalem since 1974. He was a chairman of Israel Library Association, Tel-Aviv in1969-1978.
Paul Alsberg published numerous papers on Zionist History and administration of Palestine under the British Mandate.
