Academy of the General Staff, 1948. Took part in World War II. After the war, held high command posts in air defence and air force systems. Commander-in-chief of Air Defence and Deputy Minister of Defence, 1966.
Member of Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, 1966. According to the Soviet paper Nedelia (weekly supplement of Izvestia), February 1988. he personally carried out the death sentence on the secret police chief, Beria, who begged him on his knees to spare his life.
