Pavel Nikolaevich Potokin was born on May 18, 1902 in Voronezh, Russian Federation.
He studied at Voronezh Trade School.
The publication of his works began in January 1917 ( “Hercules” magazine , Petrograd). He was a member of the jury of the championships in Greco-Roman wrestling in Ciniselli Circus (in the early 1920s). Since the 1930s, he collaborated and carried on correspondence with such athletes as Poddubny, Zaikin, Shemyakin and others, as well as with other collectors. Нe was a Chairman of the Voronezh Regional Weightlifting Section (in the 1950s - early 1960s).He was a consultant of many specialized editions, including the encyclopedia "Circus" (Moscow, 1973). His works were published in the "Pod'yem" magazine, "Kommuna" and " Molodoy Kommunar "(Young Communard) newspapers and others. He took part on the local history readings in the Nikitin Regional Universal Scientific Library in Voronezh. He was the a member of Art Council of the Voronezh Circus and of the Public Headquarters for the Restoration of the House-museum of A.L. Durov (1970s; together with N.V. Troitsky and N.L. Ivanov).
He compiled a unique collection (books, photos, postcards, posters, autographs, etc.) of Russian history of sports and circus,which was placed in the Voronezh Regional Museum. He arranged personal exhibitions (including “Under the Sign of Hercules”, 1981, House -museum of A.L. Durov), assisted in acquisition of funds for circus and sports museums of Voronezh, Tartu, Yeisk and others.
Since childhood, he took a great interest in circus and sports.
