Pedro de Aranda Avellaneda was born in 1662, in Cadiz (Andalusia, Spain), to Juan Almario Avellaneda, and María de Aranda y Ponce de León, both born also in Cadiz.

He was also a Sergeant Mayor of the Presidio of Saint Augustine, Florida, and Alcaide of the San Salvador de la Punta Fortress in Havana, Cuba. He joined to the Spanish army in his youth. Eventually, Avellana became a Sergeant Mayor of presidio of Saint Augustine, in Florida.
On April 11, 1687, Avellana was appointed acting Governor of Florida, remaining this charge until August 20 of same year.
Later, he was Alcaide of the Fortress of Castillo San Salvador de la Punta in Havana, Cuba. He tested in Havana on November 18, 1699 to the Ensign Juan Uribe Ozeta.
They had 2 children, Antonia and Hilario de Aranda Avellaneda y Estrada. He died on June 21, 1702.
His remains are in the Cathedral of Havana.
