Fathers, beware! Mothers, take care! Oh, the putrid words your young ones will learn as they read along in Peggy Appleby Auvil's "We Bought a Bird That Said Dirty Words." The story of Sam the parrot and his encyclopedic knowledge of dirty words will leave your children laughing, begging for more, and passing on a very interesting new vocabulary.

Peggy Appleby Auvil was born on 19 February 1954 in Springfield, Missouri, United States. She is a daughter of Sam Appleby and Anne Appleby.
Peggy Auvil's claim to fame came in 1972 when she won ‘Teacher’s Headache,’ an award given by the faculty and staff. Although it was a joke award when the winner was ‘awarded’ with an eighteen-pound ham at a drawing held at the opening of a local grocery store this was the time frame has eluded her. Family and youth experiences were the main reasons she turned to writing. She received a Bachelor of Science degree at Southwest Missouri State University in 1986.
Peggy started her carriere as an elementary school teacher in High Pointe Elementary School in Missouri in 1976. After about twenty year later she became a motivational speaker and demonstrator for education classes at Southwest Missouri State University.
Peggy's only published book is called "We Bought a Bird That Said Dirty Words." It was inspired by a few of her elementary students during the time of her education, where teaching dictionary skills was a part of her third-grade curriculum.
Besides teaching at the moment she has two works in progress: a poem "If You Toot Your Horn Too Loud, You Can’t Hear the Rest of the Band" and a story called "Pigs Get Fat... Hogs Get Slaughtered."
