Graduated from the Petersburg Theatre School, 1908. Pupil of M. Fokin.
Dancer at the Mariinskii Theatre. Took part in Diaghilev’s Russian Seasons in Paris, 1911. In 1912 went to Europe again, and settled in France.
With Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes until 1929. From 1932, with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, and the Ballet Russe de Colonel de Basil. Worked closely with M. Fokin, L. Miasin, George Balanchine and B. Nijinskaia.
Married Diaghilev’s right-hand man, and chief stage-director, S.L. Grigor’ev and moved with her husband to England. Co-choreographer with
Grigor’ev of some ballets at La Scala, and Sadlers Wells. Renewed Fokin’s ballets at these theatres.
From 1938 taught ballet in London, and from 1955 at Sadlers Wells.
