Spent winter in Salt Lake City, made study of Mormon religion.
Commissioned captain, 1853, assigned to survey Huerfano River, Cochetopa Pass and Grand and Green valleys to Santa Clara in South.W. Utah, expedition attacked by band of Pahvant Indians. Author: The Mormons, 1852.
