Began art work as a scenic painter at Deed Lodge, Montana, 1878, with specialty in painting of the American Indian and history incidents connected with him and the American pioneer. Took part in Nez Perce War, 1877-1878. Served 10 years private to Second lieutenant, 1st Regiment National Guard, Montana.
First lieutenant 1st Montana Infantry, United States.V., for Spanish-American War.
Served 8 months in Philippines but resigned because of failing health. Award silver medal as Montana soldier.
Engrossed memorial of appreciation by Montana Legislature, 1905, for work and display at Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Exhibited at Portland Exposition 1905.
