D'Arcy, Martin Cyril was born on June 15, 1888 in Bath.
University of Oxford and Gregorian University, Rome.
1932-1945, Lecturer in Oxford, then Master of Campion Hall.
Much of D’Arcy's work has theological as well as philosophical roots. However, he was extremely well versed both in the philosophy of his time and in medieval philosophy, and had a sharp analytical mind. His Thomas Aquinas (1930), though somewhat dated, is still an excellent introduction for philosophy students. No Absent God (1962) is in some ways a typical work. It deals briskly with whether existence is a predicate, proofs for the existence of God, and discussions of the concept of the self in both existentialism and analytical philosophy. Not the least of D’Arcy's merits was the elegance and simplicity of his style, and his deep roots in European literature and culture. His books were well received on publication, and are still read.
