Universities of Graz (Austria), Konstanz and Berlin (Germany). 1971. PhD (Dr.phil.) of the Karl-Franzens University of Graz. Dissertation on Heinrich Gomperz (‘Verstehen und Erfahrungswissenschaft’).
The aim of Elisabeth List’s feminist critique of the theory and practice of science is to reveal their androcentric character and to show that there is a male bias already in the epistemological foundations of science. She maintains that the dichotomies of objectivity and subjectivity, body and mind, and so on, are sexualized, that they devalue the female element and depict it as the deviance, as a deviation from an implicitly male norm. The task of her feminist critique is to rid science and its theory from these misogynist tendencies, and to generate a creative thinking that goes beyond gender differences and that encompasses the human experience of existing in a body and as a part of nature.
