He attended Haverford College, and after a course in architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, graduated in 1904 with a B. S. degree.
After studies he joined Arthur Meigs in a partnership which they maintained tor more than three decades. In scope and range the firm's work comprised distinctive public buildings and fine homes in this country and war memorials in France and Belgium.
In Philadelphia Mellor & Meigs were architects of the Hilles Laboratory of Applied Science at Haverford College; Phi Delta Gamma Fraternity House University of Pennsylvania; two Banking Houses for the Savings Fund Society; and a Gymnasium for the Institute for the Deaf. Also the partners designed the University Charter Club at Princeton, New Jersey, in 1912, and the auditorium at Bryn Mawr College. The firm was also notably successful in planning large homes of distinction, with a clientele including many well known persons, such as Morris E. Leeds; Colonel Henry DuPont; C. L Ward of Wilmington, Delaware; A. E. Newbold, C. W. Morris of Haverford, and F. S. Mcllhenny, Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania.
