Earle L. “Buddy” Bunker was born in 1912.
Known as Buddy or Bud to his friends, he entered the newspaper business with the Omaha Bee-News (1929-36). He then moved to the World-Herald of Omaha, where he remained until his death thirty-seven years later.
His prize-winning photograph, "The Homecoming," showed a World War II veteran embracing his seven-year-old daughter while his wife stood nearby covering her face with her hands. The image has been reproduced in Life, Time, Newsweek and the Readers' Digest, among other publications, and has been called a wartime classic. A highly respected craftsman, Bunker concentrated on color reproduction for the last eighteen years of his life.
