Howard J. Sochurek was born on November 27, 1924, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States.
Howard Sochurek attended Princeton University, New Jersey (1942-1944), and was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts (1959-1960).
Self-employed since 1970, Howard Sochurek served as a staff photographer for Life magazine from 1950 to 1970 and, before that, was a staff photographer for the Milwaukee Journal from 1945 to 1950.
He produced and photographed three ABC-TV documentaries: Primary (1961), Yankqui No (1962), and X-Pilot (1964). Howard Sochurek photographed Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Robert Frost in 1957, Richard Nixon’s presidential election campaign (1960), Henry Kissinger, and black student activists with Martin Luther King Jr. (1960).
