Sir Francis Arthur Aglen was an Inspector-General of the Chinese Maritime Customs Service.
Background
Francis Arthur Aglen was born on the seventeenth of October, 1869 in Scarborough, United Kingdom. He was the son of Archdeacon Anthony Stocker Aglen and Margaret Elizabeth MacKenzie. In 1888 Francis Aglen arrived in China. Most of his life he lived and worked in Beijing.
Education
He got education at Marlborough College.
Career
In 1888 he entered the service. Since 1895 Francis was appointed a Deputy-Commissioner. In 1897 he served as a Commissioner. Since 1910 Aglen was a Deputy Inspector General and Officiating Inspector General. In 1911 he was appointed an Inspector General. Francis was a Commander of the First Class of the Order of St.Olaf (Norway, April, 1919).
