He graduated from the University College, the Bristol University and the London University.
Evan Morgan arrived in China in 1884, during Franco-Chinese War. He spent six years in Sianfu, Shensi, and was there during Boxer trouble. He was frequently in danger from excited mobs; he left Sianfu under escort provided by H.E. Tuan Faiig about a month after Taiyuanfu Massacres, of which sent first telegraphic news to coast: With exception of furlough and period spent in Shensi lived throughout in Shansi, engaged in evangelical, educational and translating work.
He was doing translations of science books into Chinese, articles in North China Daily News. He was an Editor of Journal of China Branch, Royal Asiatic Society.
He was married to Marion Lindsay.
