Mazzulo’s maternal grandparents were Philadelphia socialite Virginia P.H. Gunsel and Austin Gunsel, NFL treasurer, commissioner, and former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent. Mazzulo attended Delaware County, Pennsylvania public schools: Sebold Elementary, East.T. Richardson Middle School, and Private: Swarthmore Academy in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. Mazzulo spent the beginning of her career in the car business.
Upon the death of a sibling, Mazzulo founded a nonprofit and at the time was amongst the youngest persons in the United States to run an organization of this type.

Mazzulo served as Chief Executive Officer of the multibillion-dollar automotive company from 2000-2009.
