He is currently playing with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (National Hockey League). Trotman was selected by the Boston Bruins in the 7th round (210th overall), the final pick of the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Trotman was born in Carmel, Indiana, but grew up in Novi, Michigan.
Amateur
Trotman played three seasons (2009-2012) of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I college hockey with the Lake Superior State Lakers men"s ice hockey team
Professional
Forgoing his final year of National Collegiate Athletic Association eligibility, on March 24, 2012, Trotman signed a three-year entry level contract with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. On December 28, 2013, with a season ending injury to defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, Trotman was called up to the Boston Bruins from the Providence Bruins and made his National Hockey League debut against the Ottawa Senators.
