Ágota Kristóf
Agota Kristof was born on October 30, 1935, in Csikvánd, Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Hungary. She was the daughter of Kalman Kristof, a teacher, and Antonia (Turchanyi) Kristof.
Agota Kristof received a Bachelor of Science in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
Agota Kristof worked at a textile factory in Hungary from 1954 to 1956. In 1956 she immigrated from Hungary to Switzerland after the invasion of Hungary by troops from the Soviet Union. Kristof worked at a watch factory in Switzerland from 1956 to 1961, and as a dental assistant in Switzerland from 1980 to 1988.
Kristof's first steps as a writer were in the realm of poetry and theater ("John et Joe", "Un rat qui passe"), which is a facet of her works that did not have as great an impact as her trilogy. In 1986 Kristof’s first novel, The Notebook appeared. It was the beginning of a moving trilogy.
