(This book was digitized and reprinted from the collection...)
This book was digitized and reprinted from the collections of the University of California Libraries. It was produced from digital images created through the libraries’ mass digitization efforts. The digital images were cleaned and prepared for printing through automated processes. Despite the cleaning process, occasional flaws may still be present that were part of the original work itself, or introduced during digitization. This book and hundreds of thousands of others can be found online in the HathiTrust Digital Library at www.hathitrust.org.

(Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this clas...)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.

(Acknowledgments SOME of the following poems have appeared...)
Acknowledgments SOME of the following poems have appeared in The Free Oxford, The London Mercury, Voices, Colour, The Oxford Outlook, The I sis, and perhaps one or two other papers. My thanks are due to the Editors for their permission to reprint the poems here. The Sweet Miracle is based upon a short story in prose by Ega de Quieroz, a Portuguese writer of the last century. I am much indebted to Mr. Edgar Prestage for his charming prose translation (published by Blackwell, Oxford), and for his kindness in reading the manuscript of my poem and giving me his advice on several points. My version, of course, does not attempt to follow the original very literally. I have known and loved the story for a long time, and have often tried to render it as a poem, first in one manner and then another, but I could make no headway until I departed from the classical style of the original and saw it all through a medieval casement. Whatever my alterations may be and I am guilty of expansions, contractions, some slight omissions, and considerable decorations none of them are intended as improvements upon the original. They are only what seemed natural when a minstrel, however poor a minstrel, makes a poem out of a story which a friend has told him in prose. None of the characters in The Sea Captain refer to any actual persons. W. F. S. Oxford, November 21, 1921. (Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.) About the Publisher Forgotten Books is a publisher of historical writings, such as: Philosophy, Classics, Science, Religion, History, Folklore and Mythology.
