Nicol & Company, and Conservative Party Member of Parliament for Dover. In 1810, Nicol went to Bombay on board the ship Carmarthen as surgeon. Nicol settled in Bombay in 1820 and founded the firm of William
Nicol & Company in Bombay, in 1820.
He left Bombay in 1828. Nicol retired from William
Nicol & Company in 1839, and went to England. Nicol was later a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant for Kincardineshire.
Nicol died in London on 8 August 1879, and is buried in Brompton Cemetery, London.
