He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida State. Jones was inducted into the Florida State Seminoles Hall of Fame in 1988.
Jones played college football at Florida State University from 1975 to 1978.
During his career he recorded 20 sacks and was an All-American as a senior. He also was the Most Valuable Player of the 1977 Tangerine Bowl and 1978 Senior Bowl.
