Valerio Magrelli graduated from Liceo Sperimentale della Bufalotta in Rome. He also attended Université de Paris III and Université di Roma.
In the early stage of his career, Valerio taught French language and literature at the University of Pisa. He has also translated French authors such as Stéphane Mallarmé, Paul Valéry, Paul Verlaine, Roland Barthes.
In 2011, he published for Einaudi Il Sessantotto realizzato da Mediaset, a work in the form of dialogue. Magrelli collaborates with the newspaper La Repubblica. He also contributes to the cultural pages of various Italian newspapers and magazines including "Il Messaggero", "L'Unità", "Diario", "Avvenire", the official SIAE magazine "Viva Verdi" and others. In September 2015, he created a DVD work, dedicated to the greatest Italian poets. Nowadays Valerio Magrelli is a professor of French literature at the University of Cassino.
For his literary activity, Magrelli has obtained many literary prizes, including Premio Laudomia Bonanni, Premio nazionale letterario Pisa, Premio Frascati, Premio LericiPea, Premio letterario Castelfiorentino, Premio Feronia-Città di Fiano and Premio Librex Montale. In 2002 the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei awarded him the Feltrinelli Prize for poetry.
Magrelli's works have been translated, among others, into English, French, Spanish, Serbian and Croatian.
Valerio Magrelli married Maria Letizia Vallo, a lawyer, on June 16, 1988. They have two children - Leonardo and Irene.
