Born on 26 September 1873, Fredereick Brodie MacNutt was educated at Street Paul’s and Trinity College, Cambridge.

He was ordained in 1898 and began his career with curacies at Holy Trinity, Beckenham and Street James Piccadilly. After this he was Curate-in-Charge of Christ Church, Wimbledon then Vicar at Street John's, Cheltenham and Street Matthew’s, Surbiton. From 1909 to 1918 he was a Canon Residentiary at Southwark Cathedral.
In 1918 he became the incumbent of Street Martin’s, Leicester and also Archdeacon of the area.
When it became a Cathedral he became its first Provost, resigning in 1938. From then until his retirement in 1946 he was a Canon at Canterbury Cathedral He died on 17 July 1949.
