Vladimir Churlovsky was born in 1898 to the family of a printing house worker
He did a major contribution into Russian science and was awarded with Order of the Red Star, Order of the Red Banner and others honors. He was the first dean of ITMO department of optics. Vladimir entered Saint St. Petersburg State University of Communication, but had to leave it on the third year because he couldn"t pay for the education.
In the next five years Vladimir changed several positions.
After Russian Revolution in 1917 Vladimir managed to enter College of Precise Mechanics and Optics. He graduated the College in 1925 and started his science career.
At the same time, he has been reading a course devoted to the theoretical aspects of optical instruments design in the College of Precise Mechanics and Optics. In 1925 The College of Precise Mechanics and Optics was reorganized into The Institute for Precise Mechanics and Optics.
Vladimir Churilovski was elected Dean and managed to keep this position for 12 years.
In 1935 Vladimir became a professor of Optical Apparatus department. In 1947 he received a Doctor degree. In 1953 he left the dean position due to health problems, but continued teaching for 16 years.
In 1966 Vladimir was awarded by degree of Honoured master of sciences and engineering.
In 1969 Vladimir officially retired, but continued consulting colleagues and completely retired only at the age of 83. Vladimir Churilovski died in 1983, at the age of 85 years.
