Teacher 1926-1939; underground teaching activity during German occupation, soldier in Home Army, editor Operation ā€œNā€, military press correspondent in Warsaw' Rising 1944. Head Publishing House Trzaska, Evert i Michalski 1946-1950. Head Lexicographical Department, co-ordinator, Deputy.

President since 1986. Minister; Minister of Culture and Art.
