He entered Parliament in 1685 as member for Thirsk (for which his father had previously been Member of Parliament), and subsequently also represented Hedon. Frankland married Elizabeth Russell, daughter of Sir John Russell and Frances Cromwell (daughter of Oliver Cromwell), in 1683, and they had at least eight children, including:
Thomas Frankland (c 1685-1747), who succeeded his father in the baronetcy and was also Member of Parliament for Thirsk and for Harwich
