He attended Wellington College in Berkshire in the early 1990s where his passion for rugby led to his captaining the Ist XV and being a non-travelling reserve for the England U18s.

After his breakthrough playing Nick Levick in award winning mockumentary series People Like Us (1999) he has enjoyed a range of leading and character roles in many productions across theatre, film and television He took a break from acting in 2006 to focus on developing his own work. This experimental period included a critically acclaimed collaboration with Will Adamsdale to create a series for British Broadcasting Corporation Radio 4, among other successful projects.
He now combines his acting career with his own self generated projects.
Wright was born in Hammersmith, London, in 1974 the son of two doctors. An injury encouraged him to focus on his other passion and he secured a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he completed a Bachelor in acting in 1996.
After People Like Us he went onto roles in a number of popular shows including Smack the Pony, Black Books and The Vicar of Dibley. His first lead role in a television series came in 2002 when he played Eddie Chisolm alongside Sally Phillips in Rescue Maine written by David Nicholls.
His theatre work includes Howard Davies" production of All My Sons at The National Theatre and his many representative theatre roles include Nick Bottom in David Farrs" A Midsummer Night"s Dream and The Prince of Wales in The Madness of George III at the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
Wright is perhaps best known to a worldwide audience for his portrayal of Personal Computer Mark Mylow in Doc Martin. He has played character parts in films such as Bridget Jones" Diary, Incendiary and Ali G Indahouse. lieutenant was his break from acting in 2006 that marked a turning point in his career.
He tried his hand at writing and was commissioned to co-create and perform 2, 6 x 15 minimum late night comedy series for British Broadcasting Corporation Radio 4.
In this exploratory phase he also started an improvisation group and co-created a one man contemporary clown show that led to him being asked to play 7-year-old Roger Walker in Tom Morris" West End production of Swallows and Amazons. Filmograhy Stage Radio.
