Born on 18th January, 1976, Subhrajit Mitra started his career at the age of 18 as a documentary director for Doordarshan. His debut feature film was in 2008. Mitra has directed 5 feature films including and Kakababu trilogy by Sunil Ganguly.
Earlier in his career, prior to Mon Amour, he scripted and directed six documentaries for Doordarshan, the national channel, a fifty-two episodes of a documentary-series on National network with joint production by Indian Space Research Organisation, two corporate documentaries for Bachelor of Medicine Birla heart research center, a corporate documentary for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and a promotional docu-fiction on conservation of nature for Forest Department of West Bengal.
Subhrajit researched, scripted and Directed “WANGALA” – a documentary film on GARO tribes in the North east of the Himalayan foothill range, it was premiered with very much appreciation in ‘Document 2 film Festival’ (September 2004) in GLASGOW, Scotland, United Kingdom and Awarded as ‘Special Mention’ film in the ‘Golden Gate Fiction & Film Festival’ (December 2004) in San Francisco, United States of America and as ‘Integral Realization’ in the ‘Honolulu International Film Festival’. He was an empanelled filmmaker of National Geographic Channel, Discovery Channel and History Channel.
He has directed a series on the lesser-known tribes of the Himalayas, titled “Himalayasunsung, unseen” for National Geographic Channel. Mitra made a feature on Jesus Christ’s alleged life in India after his proclaimed resurrection, titled “”.
Internationally acclaimed actors such as Soumitra Chatterjee and Aparna Senator have acted in this film.
The film was nominated as the “Best International docu-feature” award at the Rome international film festival 2006. Apart from this he has scripted and directed nine telefilms for various channels. Subhrajit has made quite a few commercials for some national brands and worked as the show-director for big television events.
His film on prisoner’s children, “”, produced by Government.of India and Gaurang Films is traveling in several international festivals.
Mitra is making a documentary on the 1971 India–Pakistan war and Bangladesh liberation for BSF, produced by Ministry of Home Affairs, India. Mr. A R Rahman has done the score for this.
