Haslam is the daughter of Ross Bagwell Senior, the founder of what is now HGTV, and his wife Sue Burchfield.
She is the wife of Pilot Flying J Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Haslam. Before RIVR Media, there was Bagwell Communications, founded by Ross Bagwell Senior, Haslam"s father. RIVR Media has produced several well-known series, including Trading Spaces for TLC, World Series of Poker for The Discovery Channel, Whale Wars for Animal Planet, and Renovation Realities for HGTV and DIY Network.
Haslam was also integral in the creation of RIVR Media Interactive"s Moving Picture Books, an animated children"s literature series.
In 2012, Haslam founded a film company called Nest Features, which specializes in films centered around Southern culture. She is also active with the United Way chapters of Greater Cleveland and Greater Knoxville.

Haslam is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters, the National Association of Television Program Executives, the Women"s Business Enterprise National Council, Women in Cable Telecommunications, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the International Women"s Forum, and the Society of International Business Fellows, She is Chair of the Board of Directors of East Tennessee Children"s Hospital, Chair of the Board of Directors of Knoxville"s Lakeshore Park, and President of the Cleveland Browns Foundation. She is a member of the boards of the Emerald Youth Foundation, the University of Tennessee Foundation, the Nantucket-based preservation group "Sconset Trust, Tennessee"s State Collaborative on Reforming Education (Service Corps of Retired Executives), and the Dean"s Advisory Board for the University of Tennessee College of Business.
