Oakman was redshirted as a true freshman at Penn State in 2011.
In February 2012, Oakman was dismissed from Penn State for violation of team rules.
On Saint Patrick"s Day of 2011, Oakman went to "the Mix", a store on Penn State"s campus. Without any money left on his student card, he concealed a hoagie.
After an employee approached him and asked him if he were going to pay for the hoagie hidden in his coat, Oakman denied lieutenant He then attempted to pay for a juice, where the cashier then held his card, he grabbed the employee"s wrist, commandeered his card, placed the hoagie and drink on the counter, and proceeded to leave.
On Monday, May 13, 2011, after multiple messages by head coach Bill O"Brien he was told he was kicked off the Nittany Lion"s football team

After sitting out the 2012 season due to National Collegiate Athletic Association transfer rules, Oakman played in 13 games as a backup defensive end in 2013. He recorded 33 tackles and two sacks.
He became a starter for the first time in 2014.
On December 29, Oakman announced he would be returning to Baylor for his senior season. At the Cotton Bowl Classic on January 1, 2015, a picture of Oakman on the jumbotron at American Telephone & Telegraph Company Stadium went viral across social media, including social media site Twitter.
The image became "an internet sensation" overnight because of his intimidating build, with Oakman standing at 6 ft 9 in (206 m).
