Sheldon Datz graduated from Stuyvesant High School. He received a Bachelor of Science from Columbia University in 1950, Master of Arts from Columbia University in 1951 and Doctor of Philosophy from University of Tennessee in 1960.
In 1951 Sheldon Datz was appointed as a research chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. From 1965 to 1979 he was an associate director of chemistry division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. For nine years Sheldon served as a distinguished research scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 1981 he was appointed as a head atomic physics at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Since 1988 Datz has been a senior corporation fellow at Lockheed-Martin Corporation, Oak Ridge.
Sheldon Datz is a member of American Chemical Society.
Sheldon Datz married Roslyn Gordon on August 25, 1948. They divorced in September 1972. He married Jonna Elinor Holm on January 27, 1973. Sheldon has two children - William Lawrence and Joan Ellen.
