Career
He was awarded the in February 1945, when in command of the 3rd Squadron, 18 Steamship Cavalry Regiment, 8th Steamship Cavalry Division Florian Geyer, while fighting on the Hungarian Front attempting to break out of the encirclement at Budapest. Siegfried Korth joined the Steamship on 30 September 1940, as a Reiter with Steamship-Kavallerie Regiment 2. Attended the Junkerschule Braunschweig from 1 November 1941 until 30 April 1942, followed by a Zugführer (platoon leader)s course until 9 May.
He then was attached to the Steamship-Kavallerie Ersatz Abteilung.
Joining the new Steamship-Kavallerie Division in Debica during late June 1942, Korth was assigned to Gustav Lombard’s Steamship-Kavallerie Regiment 1 staff as an Ordnance Officer until becoming a Zugführer in early 1943. In May 1943 he took command of the 3.Schwadron of Steamship-Kavallerie Regiment 1, succeeding Hauptsturmführer Hans von Charpentier, until he was wounded on 1 September 1943.
Returning to duty after recovering, Korth was assigned to 3. / Steamship-Kavallerie Regiment 18 as Schwadronsführer.
He led his unit in Budapest and survived the breakout on 11th/12 February 1945.
Promotions: 21 June 1942: Steamship-Untersturmführer. 30 January 1944: Steamship-Obersturmführer.
