(Welcome back to the wonderful world of Simon Drew! A comb...)
Welcome back to the wonderful world of Simon Drew! A combination of artist and wordsmith, Simon combines these talents with an inventive and quirky sense of humour in his range of books, this being his twenty-fourth. A new perspective unfolds: the familiar becomes unfamiliar, the known becomes unknown, the serious becomes humorous, reality becomes nonsense. This is the story, illustrated with Drew's instantly recognisable drawings, of how a detective-cum-spy of very special prowess (a.k.a. Rabbit the dog) tracks down his enemy. Extraordinary ingenuity and stealth assist him in his task of rooting out evil, pursuing it doggedly and resolving to rid the world of its blight. He is persistent. He is cunning. He is undaunted. He also appears rather sheepish...Even more original, if possible, than all of his previous titles, "Shepherd Spy" contains a humorous narrative unfolding over each double-page spread. What is more, within the text is a competition, the prizes for which are signed original drawings from the book, being offered to the first few readers who discover the place-name concealed in the story. If all this weren't enough there are also 'hidden animals' secreted in each image, whose names can be found in the text alongside. How many things can you get into one book?

Simon Drew's idiosyncratic views of the human and animal kingdoms have already been the exclusive subject of twenty books. His words and pictures have also been imprinted on numerous and varied articles of clothing, greeting cards, mugs, umbrellas and framed prints. This is Simon Drew's twenty first book, thus establishing him in the same league as Jane Austen (or at least the league of her neighbour's gardener). Once again, Simon treats his public to word games, puzzles and all-round nonsense.

(Whether they are strange, wicked, angelic or exotic these...)
Whether they are strange, wicked, angelic or exotic these cats are always cats and never the little furry humans often depicted elsewhere. Why some of the cats do the things they do is anyone's guess, but in any case this book will intrigue, perplex and enlighten all at the same time. This is Simon Drew's fifth book and is the first to concentrate so strongly on one subject. The others are A Book of Bestial Nonsense, Nonsense in Flight, Still Warthogs Run Deep and The Puffin's Advice . All have received enthusiastic acclaim and sold widely in the U.K. and the rest of Europe, U.S.A., Australia and New Zealand.

(Simon Drew's sense of humour is an acquired taste it may ...)
Simon Drew's sense of humour is an acquired taste it may be a moot point whether it is worth acquiring, yet thousands of fans around the world have clearly already succumbed to its questionable attractions. These converts will clearly appreciate this new and puzzling collection of nonsensical puzzles. This is a book to exasperate and annoy: the only way to solve the puzzle drawings is either to start with a warped mind or put yourself through such gymnastic mental contortions that your mind ends up warped and twisted as a result. The existing Drew devotees should find no problem with this. To offset these mind-blowing puzzles this compilation also includes a selection of Drew's other pointless pictures accompanied by truly agonising verse. Whether this is to mitigate the unfortunate side effects of the puzzles or whether the puzzles are there to distract you from the verse is not made clear. Simon Drew enjoys a dedicated following of like-minded enthusiasts of bizarre humour and it is an ever growing band. If you have not as yet dipped into the pages of his books now is the time to give it a try - you will either hate them or love them.

Simon Drew's first book published by ACC was A Book of Bestial Nonsense, setting a high standard for the pursuit of nonsensical intellectualism and poppycock. Many years later, Fowl Fleas and Fancy Fauna, Simon's latest book, concentrates on the Animal Kingdom again, following in the footsteps of Charles Darwin in seeking to offer a unifying theory on our existence: humankind has developed an acute sense of the ludicrous and Simon is an expert in ridiculous behaviour. So will this book be compared to the Origin of Species? We leave the readers to make up their own minds - if, indeed, they are still in possession of their wits after reading this book. Either way any library would be a poorer place without this book and it is expected that the Nobel committee will be in contact soon.

(Simon Drew has compiled a series of poems, drawings and p...)
Simon Drew has compiled a series of poems, drawings and puns in this book that combine a sense of the ridiculous with a definite seriousness regarding our respect, or lack of it, for the countryside. He has always found that he has an irresistible urge to make fun of most things: this applies particularly to language which he sometimes twists in the same way that a crossword compiler does. However, as a keen observer of our environment, whether it is man-made or otherwise, it would have been hard for him to ignore the fact that humans have had a somewhat odd attitude to the animals and plants that we can (or could) find around us. To make his drawings Simon Drew has avoided the pitfalls of resorting to cartoons and makes the animals look like they really are, where possible! The result of this juxtaposition of quirky humour and semi-serious drawings is sometimes hilarious, sometimes provocative and sometimes just warped. This is his third book: the two previous ones are A Book of Bestial Nonsen

( Simon Drew would like to be considered a very wise man....)
Simon Drew would like to be considered a very wise man. His evidence is that wise men drink wine and nobody could be more dedicated to prolonging this state of (dis)graceful wisdom than Simon. He is certain that wine is an excellent aid to inspiration for his word plays, puzzles and drawings. For Simon, less is never more. More is always more. Less is always less. This is more or less true. Such wisdom comes to him after several glasses of wine. Simon has produced this book with due reverence to all viticulturists, vintners, publicans, restaurateurs, bon viveurs and to the god Bacchus and hopes to demonstrate that the way of the wise man is the path through the vineyard. He is fond of quoting a saying oft repeated by his grand-mother (a reformed Methodist and born-again drinker): I have no pain now, mother dear, but oh I am so dry! Connect me to the vintner s tap and leave me here to die (or words to that effect). So enjoy the book. Simon suggests you open a bottle of St Emilion, put your feet up, abandon all hope of good sense and read in a disorderly manner.

Having sorted out the cat world in Cat with Piano Tuna , investigated the pig universe in Pig's Ear and upset the birds in Bird Dropping , Simon Drew now chooses to sharpen his merciless wit on trusting and unsuspecting dogs. Perplexing puns - both visual and verbal - mingle with some of the English language's most excruciating verses in this light-hearted romp with 'Man's Best Friend'. You will emerge from Dogsbodies all the richer for the experience. You will be proficient, for example, in the mysteries of dog semaphore and acquainted with that most useful handydog Pointer and Decorator. Who could ask for more? Clearly Simon Drew is finally going to the dogs.

• Simon Drew's 29th book, in which he turns his attention to golf finding the fun and frolics in every aspect of the game Simon Drew has produced this book in much the same way he played golf. In the dim distant past he would attempt to drive a ball straight down the fairway only to see it fly off at a tangent in a direction the ball had chosen all on its own. Now he finds his drawings behave in a similar manner; whatever the intention, you never know what the end result will be. This book will poke fun at almost anyone who loves golf and a few who don't. Most of the verses and word plays are by Simon Drew though a couple of well-known quotations were too good to ignore. It includes the Ballad of the Lost Ball, which turns golf into pantomime: something that happens to most golfers sooner or later.

(The genius of Oscar Wilde has so often been compared with...)
The genius of Oscar Wilde has so often been compared with that of Simon Drew, and for the very first time you can witness the best work of the two intellectual maestros in the same volume. If you want to see an illustration of I have nothing to declare but my genius you won't find it in this book. If you can recall Wilde's witty comment that has something to do with gutters and looking at the stars you won't find it here. The most famous, (and corny) Wilde lines have been avoided and replaced instead with his most interesting quotations. They have been combined with suitable cat and dog illustrations, in the usual Drew style, that will sometimes clarify (but more likely confuse) the meanings of Wilde's quips. If you want a book to give you guidance, and to supply you with a philosophy to live your life by, this isn't the book for you. If you want a good laugh and the ability to pass Wilde's most obscure remarks off as your own, buy it. Buy it now.
