The second son of Samuel Trehawke Kekewich, he received an Master of Arts
From Balliol College, Oxford in 1856, and studied law at Lincoln"s Inn.
He was called to the bar in 1858 and became Queen's Counsel in 1877, and a bencher of Lincoln"s Inn in 1881. In 1880 he ran unsuccessfully as a Conservative candidate in Coventry, and in 1885 he ran unsuccessfully as the Conservative candidate in Barnstaple. In 1886, on the occasion of the retirement of Vice-Chancellor James Bacon, he was appointed a judge of the Chancery Division.
In 1906, he was appointed to the Privy Council.
In 1858 Kekewich married Marianne, daughter of James William Freshfield. He also had a half-brother, George William Kekewich, by his father"s second wife.
