She represented Brazil at the Fédération internationale de football association Women"s World Cup in 1991, 1995 and 1999. As well as in the inaugural Olympic women"s football tournament in 1996. Elane was part of the European Commission Radar club team who represented Brazil at the 1988 Fédération internationale de football association Women"s Invitation Tournament in Guangdong and finished in third place.
An aggressive central defender, Elane remained a key player for Brazil at the 1999 Fédération internationale de football association Women"s World Cup.

She was named equal seventh (with Meg) in the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) South America"s best Women"s Football player of the Century list.
